I recently got a SonyEricsson W810i. I'd been waiting a long time for it, for its 2 megapixel camera, for its music player, and for more extensive Bluetooth support than the phone that preceded it, the Motorola V600. The V600's Bluetooth support was pretty much limited to me moving files on and off; support for syncing with MacOSX (namely the contacts) was known not work. And forget about all the new Bluetooth goodness that'd come to maturity since I got that phone.
So, I looked forward to not having to manually enter all my contacts; rather I could just iSync my Mac's address book onto the new phone in one fell swoop.
Of course I wouldn't be mentioning all of this if it had worked- it didn't. See, I'm still on MacOS X 10.3 (Panther) with iSync 1.5 and though it has support for SonyEricsson phones of the time, my new phone didn't show up in iSync (the other Bluetooth pairing and file transfer stuff worked OK though). I was dreading that this was going to finally make me upgrade to Tiger.
On a hunch, though, I google'd around and came across this: notes on how to add newer phones to Apple's "compatibility list". That page didn't mention my phone specifically, but I took a stab and just guessed at what a new entry would be for /System/Library/SyncServices/BTConduit.bundle/Contents/Resources/BTConduit_phones.plist.
After 3 tries, I found this to work:
<key>Sony Ericsson--separator--AAB-1022016-BV</key>
<string>bttool</string>
I was able to get my initial batch of contacts imported without a hitch (my main concern) but it doesn't work perfect. Adding new contacts via Address Book resulted in new entries disappearing, as if the phone was sync'ing onto Address Book, rather than a bidirectional sync, but I have to look into that.
Update 2006-11-09
I just got a W300i to serve as a backup phone (W810i had to be sent to Sony to address a dust-under-the-lens problem- don't get me started). The strings for the plist for the W300 are:
<key>Sony Ericsson--separator--AAF-1052031-BV</key>
<string>bttool</string>
Didn't work at first - I forgot to unpair the computer and the phone first. After that, all good! Didn't have to type in any contacts!
